The universal and the singular

Jacques Di Donato, Gaël Mevel and Thierry Waziniak all inhabit a rare world governed by the eclectic.
Each one of them has developed an easy, wide-open relationship with music and the arts which allows for the
mingling and cross-fertilisation of many genres (drama, poetry, cooking, dance, painting...).
Each one of them has created, invented, instigated thought-provoking encounters. They have been playing in each other’s company for 15 years.

On this occasion they share their hunger for improvisation, and their common experience of the practice, both of which are fed by the wide spectre of the demands they make of themselves.
They all share in the belief that borders are permeable, that music is not plural but must always be singular.
The music played by the trio « Rives » is thus always improvised, a succession of dense climactic moments is created in a live environment thanks to the wide range of instruments present. An occasional hand signal can intervene now and again to allow a different kind of impromptu. The remainder is created on the spot for the audience who happens to be present : a unique, open, living music-making which will not turn its back either on gentleness or
boisterous energy.


L'universel et le singulier

Jacques Di Donato, Gaël Mevel et Thierry Waziniak ont en partage un ecclectisme peu commun.
Chacun d’eux a développé un rapport large à la musique et aux arts, les croisant, les mêlant (théâtre poésie, art culinaire, danse, peinture...).
Ils ont chacun créé, inventé, provoqué des rencontres inouies, mais aussi défendu les musiques contemporaines en créant des lieux de diffusion, ils jouent ensemble depuis quinze années dans différents projet autour du cinéma muet ou des créations de Gaël Mevel.

Ici, ils partagent leur nécessité de l’improvisation, et leur expérience de cette pratique, nourries du très large spectre de leurs exigences.
Ils partagent aussi l’idée que les frontières sont perméables, que la musique n’est pas plurielle mais doit être singulière.

La musique du trio “rives” est ainsi entièrement
improvisée, sont créés en direct une succession de
climats forts grâce à l’immense palette de tous les instruments présents.
Quelque signes de la main permettent parfois une autre forme d’impromptu.
Le reste est créé à l’instant pour le public présent : une
musique unique, vivante, ouverte, qui ne refuse ni la douceur, ni la plus grande vivacité.
